Account Manager - Biotech


The Biotech Account Manager is responsible for increasing revenue for AIC by identifying biotech opportunities and closing new clients for the business. It is a true Business Development role.

  • Create biotech product sales in assigned territories by promoting and expanding AIC’s biotech business
  • Prospecting and lead development, including lots of cold calling and some data mining
  • Continually educate self and others on the latest information related to AIC product lines and the evolving biotech markets
  • Work collaboratively and communicate efficiently and effectively with internal AIC groups, including Executive Committee, Product Managers, Regulatory, Quality, Inside Sales and Customer Service
  • Utilize internal system to capture weekly sales reports, ensure that standard processes are followed during opportunity qualification, standard Q&S is utilized and tracking rules are followed


  • B.S. in Chemistry, Life Sciences or related degree
  • Five years’ experience minimum experience selling chemicals
  • Experience in cold calling / prospecting / closing sales
  • Self starter with ability to work independently
  • Valid driver’s license required / good driver history (must meet insurability requirements)
  • Excellent oral, written, telephone and presentation skills
  • Must be able to travel up to 50% within US
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Office Suite – Word, Outlook, PowerPoint preferred.
  • Experience with Chempax a plus
  • Preferred experience working in or selling into the following markets: Oligonucleotide Synthesis, Chromatography /Purification, High Purity Solvents
  • Preferred knowledge of regulatory requirements in manufacturing (cGMP, FDA, etc)

Technical Sales Representative/Associate Product Manager

Job Summary

The Technical Sales Representative primarily provides technical support for AIC supplied ingredients to AIC customers, sales representatives and product managers. These may include issues regarding quality, formulation, chemistry performance of food and dietary supplements.

The second job function would be that of a Product Manager. This includes managing all aspects of identifying, acquiring and delivering quality products for AIC customers. He/she will maintain product inventory and assist to help develop new business. In addition, be cross-trained in all AIC products.


Technical Support

  • Provide support to customers regarding product formulation issues.
  • At the request of Sales or other Product Managers, contact customers or suppliers regarding technical issues on AIC products.
  • Introduce new AIC products from a technical standpoint.
  • Travel with AIC sales reps to customers to introduce new products from a technical standpoint
  • Provide all AIC Product Managers with technical support when needed and if possible.

Inventory Management

  • Monitor product forecasts and production plans to ensure appropriate product inventory levels
  • Price analysis and positioning by product classification
  • Manage costs; monitor the financial performance for assigned products
  • Develop and maintain competitive analysis reports. Analyze pricing and programs of competitor products to determine relative position of current offerings
  • Responsible for gross profit generated on assigned products
  • Set AIC market prices to maximize gross profit, grow business, and authorize Credit and Debit Memos
  • Authorize material returns, monitor and plan AIC inventory based on sales trends and forecast
  • Issue credits to customers and debits to manufacturers
  • Introduce new products

Sales Support

  • Collaborate with the sales force by sharing strategic information and direction on markets and selling opportunities: market conditions, pricing, competition, supply and demand, forecasting of nutritional products to clients in North America.
  • Calculate whether we can match competitor offers
  • Respond to Sales requests for samples, quotations, information regarding suppliers and inventory and confirm pricing to customer service
  • Target key prospects and provide leads and market information to Inside Sales and Outside Sales
  • Work with marketing and Sales to ensure all product documents and marketing literature are accurate

Supplier Relationship Management

  • Develop and maintain relationships with company suppliers
  • Stay current with FDA and other governmental agency regulations
  • Write specifications and SPIS, approve specs and SPIS, and decide when a return needs to be accepted, process returns,
  • Qualify new suppliers as needed


  • Bachelor’s Degree required. Prefer Food Science, Chemistry, and Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or Biochemistry or related discipline. Advanced degree preferred
  • Ability to travel up to 25%
  • 5 of years’ experience in technical services, product formulation or similar discipline.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and Power Point.
  • Attention to detail and reliability.
  • Ability to learn Chempax (AIC's Operating System) as it relates to assigned responsibilities: Researching customer, product, & supplier information. Experience with Chempax preferred.
  • Ability to learn AIC Standard Operating Procedures related to assigned responsibilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, and administrative skills.

Quality Document Coordinator



  • Coordinate responses to requests from customers and sales for various documents and information, principally the completion of questionnaires and surveys requiring response from AIC and AIC suppliers.
    • Maintain a log of all requests from the Field for questionnaires and surveys, including those still open and those completed and provide counts to Quality Director for inclusion in Management Reviews.
    • Check Chempax to verify customer purchases, responsible Product Managers, related supplier information and review electronic folders for information related to previous requests
    • Coordinate with the Quality Director, Product Managers, and suppliers the completion of customer surveys and questionnaires.
    • Assemble all documents, including the completed questionnaires and all related product documents required by customers, and send to customers.
    • Save all completed questionnaires as AIC records, on the shared Customer drive in the Customer Surveys & Questionnaires folder.
    • Forward to Document Control Manager, any new product documents for storing in the main files.
    • Follow up with suppliers, Sales Representatives, customers, and others as required regarding the status of customer requests.
  • Work closely with other members of the Quality Department and with the Document Control Manager to ensure that all documents and records are stored in proper locations.
  • Maintain current and orderly files.
